A good friend of mine, Clarence Lowe, Founding Partner of StarForce, USA, reminds me that each of us is created with a specific life purpose. He relates it this way:
“I can sit on a table and use it as a chair, but that’s not what it is designed to do. After a while, it becomes uncomfortable. My legs dangle above the floor, I have nothing to lean my back against, the table top is hard. Why? Because it was never designed as a chair. It’s purpose was as a table, not a chair.” –
He’s right. Rick Warren wrote, The Purpose Driven Life. Others volumes fill the shelves trying to help people understand that we each have a life purpose. The problem today is we seldom stop to figure out what our purpose really is. We go out and get a job because someone said we could do it or because it was available. Consequently, 60% of us are unhappy in the jobs we’re in and would quit if we thought we could.
So what if we could be happy doing what we do? What if we could figure out what we are supposed to do with our life? What if we could somehow discover our purpose and pursue that purpose throughout our life? That would be something to strive for, wouldn’t it? That’s exactly the work a life coach engage in. Helping you find your niche in life.
Don’t quit your job and hire a life coach. Don’t even hire a life coach and immediately quit your job. But you might hire a life coach, find your purpose in life, and do one of two things. Find that you look at your job differently because you really are fulfilling your life purpose in your current job and you find happiness in doing it. Or you might find yourself in a completely different career because you have found your real life purpose.
